The Walton County Library, Coastal Branch asked several artists to do paintings based on a book of our choice. I chose the book “A Land Remembered”, by Patrick Smith. If you have never read this and you live in the State of Florida, you should. Excellent read! Look closely and you will see the fancy (painted white) cracker house in the distance. Standing on my dock looking west, this is what you see. This was my first and only plein air piece. I use acrylics, so standing on a dock in full sun made for quick work. The paint dried almost immediately so I used a palette knife for the majority of the piece to get some quick color down. I love this little hummingbird. I was inspired to do this series by the hummingbirds outside of my studio window. They are so colorful and full of life. One day I will do more of these. I have several ideas/themes to work on, just need the time.


Palms at Eden Gardens State Park, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. If you have never been to Eden Gardens you should go. Very peaceful and beautiful. I love going there with my dog, Ozzy, and to hike and draw. Current Location: VA Hospital, Orlando
