Apple of My Eye by Brenda Osborne

“Apple of My Eye” is something or someone you cherish. I just love our local waterways and our clouds. This depicts the Choctawhatchee Bay close to LaGrange Bayou. Oh… did you see the apple? It looks like you could pick it right off the canvas and eat it. Yum! Acrylic on cradled board.  12×12 framed Current Location: Emerald Coast Theatre Company, art show during the run of the play “Almost Maine”. Come enjoy… Read More

(I have not decided if I am finished with this one… ) This is in honor of my big sister that recently spent 2 months in Honduras working with a missionary. My sister has worked for many years to get medical training, teaching experiences, etc. in an effort to be a missionary. So, that is the ladder that she has climbed, she left behind the temptations and took the leap into her… Read More

Oh Pear! Oh Fun! Will she or won’t she? I have been here before. Sometimes you should not look back and just jump! Whee! Grow some wings and soar. Current Location: Unavailable

I took a break (again) from my apple quest. I am working on a commission piece that just has me in a creative slump. So…… I did this quick “Adam and Eve” charcoal/pastel drawing. It was fun and considering It was sort of dark in the room the colors did not turn out too shabby.

I took a few days off from apples. Now I am back and BIG. This apple is about 15 inches tall. The actual apple is sitting in the bottom left. My apple #4 is next to that. #4 was the smallest and not previously posted. I loved doing this large apple. Time wise it took about the same time doing the large with charcoal as it did the small with pencil. You… Read More

For this one I went back to the video and watched again. Man, it is amazing how much you miss when you think you know what someone told you. Our brains are stubborn and programmed from past experiences. Number 4 is missing, I did it just need to post.

Wow! I actually did something 3 days in a row! Here is my third apple. Leave it to me to not follow class instructions. So, I made this one back lit from above. Makes for interesting shadows coming forward and then the shadows reflect back up onto the apple. I never noticed the reflected shadows before. Very interesting. I also went hog-wild crazy and added some background. I am learning how to “see” shadows… Read More

My second day doing apples. This one I setup myself with a real apple and lighting. I was having a problem with the shadows and highlights. I think this was due to having two light sources and not enough contrast. It really is hard to draw what you actually see and not what you think you see.

I am taking an online class with Will Kemp, How to Draw Light and Shadow. Lesson one – draw and apple. I think I might draw an apple everyday and see what I come up with…could be fun. Maybe I will draw/paint a HUGE apple – I am absolutely positive that someone would love to have a 48×48 apple to hang on their wall, 🙂
